This year, we have a very special keynote speaker for you: Pierre-Yves Cousteau! Pierre-Yves is the president of Cousteau Divers, sponsor of EMSEA15, a branch of the Cousteau Society that gets individuals to actively participate in the study and protection of the environment, Pierre-Yves is also Marine Program Officer at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Additionally, Pierre-Yves is very passionate about a new citizen science program which aims to monitor the temperature of the ocean globally at ecosystem level. This is the Project Hermes, for a which a crowd funding campaign was launched on 2 September 2015, to raise enough money to equip 50 Cousteau Dive centres with high-precision temperature measuring instruments to calibrate your dive computer, and record temperatures all year-round.
Dr. Kaiti Siakavara is a Biologist and High School Teacher in Heraklion, Crete. She holds a PhD in Marine Biology (University of Crete-Biology Dep.). She worked for about 10 years in the HCMR as scientific responsible for several European and national projects related to marine ecology, bottom cartography and coastal decision making. After her appointment in secondary education she continued to collaborate with the Cretaquarium – HCMR to develop marine educational projects. She also served as head of the Gouves Centre of Environmental Education and for the last two years she collaborates with the Chemistry Department in the context of European projects related to Inquiry Based Science Education.
